Have you ever taken a moment to wonder what a difference you make at PCC? When my family started attending Pathway, the average Sunday attendance was around 500, and we thought that was a large church. Now that the weekend attendance is around 3,000, it would be easy to fall into the mindset that one person really doesn’t make that much of a difference.
Unfortunately, that isn’t true at all. Each and every person plays an important part. Just ask the visitor who was greeted with a warm smile at the door. Ask the person who worked a 12-hour shift on Saturday night and is sipping their coffee to stay awake for the Sunday morning service. Ask the child whose classroom is closed because they are short one volunteer in Kid City.
You might say that those are all examples of people who are actively serving in the body, and you are right. But, even if you are unable to serve for whatever reason, you are still an important part of who we are as a church. Ask the person who sits next to you on a Sunday morning, or the person you smile at as you pass them in the atrium.
Your presence becomes even more important in areas where community is key, such as Life Journey Groups, Life Support Groups and classes. You may have the story that brings to life a difficult passage of scripture or gives a practical application of hard principle. You may be the extra prayer lifted up on behalf of someone in need where two or more are gathered. You may be the difference between having enough people for your group to meet and the necessity to cancel.
If you consider PCC your church home, then I hope you realize the importance of the word “your.” Without people, our Shearwater location is only a building. Without you, PCC cannot be your church. You really do make the difference.
